Thank you for sharing that story and that image. Hearing of a circumstance where artists of your levels meet and interact in this way is tremendously exciting. Of course it leaves me hoping for more, but more importantly it reassures me that there are organizations and advocates out there fulfilling their purpose if you two are brought together in this way.
Keep up the great works and thank you.

I heard a performance of "Kingfishers Catch Fire" by the Southridge High School (Oregon) Wind Ensemble, conducted by Todd Zimberman. It was great, at least to my tin ear. I googled for more about the music, and after getting past the numerous links to the Gerard Manley Hopkins poem, I found your website. Keep up the good work...

All I can say about this is "epicly awesome!" I so can't wait to hear the Trombone Concerto! Especially if Joe Alessi is playing it!

John,

If you right a trombone concerto, you have to at least put in one of those big trombone gliss I-V-I endings. That'd be hilarious! =)

Wow, I can't wait to hear what you'll come up with after your lesson in cool trombone tricks! It'll be awesome, I'm sure! Keep up the good work.

One of the things that I enjoy most about reading your blog is the fact that you, for all your talent and success, actually seem a bit star struck when describing someone like Joe Alessi. What a marvelous experience. Of course you'll never forget it.

It reminds me of this one time I was in Richardson for a performance with the Austin Symphonic Band. While working out on a treadmill in the hotel's teeny tiny workout room, I ended up chatting with this nice young man who turned out to be an up-and-coming composer. I didn't realize until later that night, when I heard his piece--I think it was called Strange Humors-- that I had been in the company of someone truly special. . . I'll never forget THAT!
